The San Francisco One Day – 140 Miles!
This weekend was the 4th annual San Francisco One Day, a 24 hour race on a 1.06 mile loop around Crissy Field at the north tip of San Francisco. My hat is off to all runners as this seems like pure madness to me.. running for 24 hours on a flat 1 mile loop! The story from the race is definitely the performances by Brian Krogmann and Suzanna Bon as both runners absolutely put on a show and set a new marks for the mens and womens course records.

Brian Krogmann shortly before the finish, on his way to complete 140.1 miles and set a new Course Record!
Brian Krogmann logged 140.1 miles (132 laps), finishing First Overall and setting a new course record by roughly 10 miles. I checked in on the race throughout the day and night and each time Krogmann was absolutely in the zone.. a man on a mission. The performance was truly inspiring as was Brian’s finish and his show of emotion while realizing the amazing accomplishment that he had just achieved. Great job!

Suzanna Bon on her way to complete 134.7 miles as set a new Womens Course Record!
Suzanna Bon logged 134.7 miles (127 laps), finishing Second Overall and First Female. Suzanna resembled a smiling piston each time she came around to complete a loop. Suzanna set a new Womens Course Record by over 29 miles and also surpassed the prior Overall Course Record. Amazing performance!
I am amazed by Brian’s and Suzanna’s achievements. They both qualified for the US National 24 Hour Running Teams and hopefully will be selected once the team rosters are announced in early 2010. It wouls be great to cheer on some Californians during the IAU World 24 Hour Championships in Breve, France in May if they decide to compete!
Again congrats to all runners as all of your performances and stories from the day are truly inspiring. I am in awe of you all, and the psyche that it takes to run a timed 24 hour race on a 1 mile loop. At the end of the 24 hours, Race Director Wendell Doman mentioned that over 7,000 miles were logged by runners in the 24 and 12 hour races on the day. Wow, way to go everyone!
